The query letter is roughly 300 words. It takes most writers weeks to get right. That's not a problem — that's correct. A query letter is not a summary of your book. It is a sales pitch, a writing sample, and a first impression rolled into one, and it has to work on all three levels simultaneously. Agents read hundreds of them a week.
