Poetry mostly lives outside the agent system, which makes this page short and slightly strange. Most poets find publication through pamphlet presses, magazines, competitions, and prize culture rather than through literary agents. The agents who do touch poetry usually represent it as part of a larger career: literary fiction, memoir, performance writing, essay collections, or the kind of cross-genre work where verse sits inside a wider project. Carol Ann Duffy's career and the recent rise of poetry-shaped memoir have given the form occasional commercial visibility, but the agent route remains the exception rather than the rule. 45+ agents on this page show poetry signals in some form. Consider whether your project would actually benefit from an agent now, or whether direct submission to a press or pamphlet publisher would serve the work better.
