US True crime Literary Agents

40 agents · 31 currently open to submissions

True crime is no longer just a lurid shelf label. Since In Cold Blood, Serial, and I'll Be Gone in the Dark, agents have looked for access, ethics, structure, and a reason the book should exist beyond fascination with the case. At least 11 US agents show true crime signals, often through investigative journalism, memoir, criminal justice, psychology, or narrative non-fiction. Some want reported books with public-interest weight; others are open to survivor-led projects, wrongful-conviction stories, institutional failures, or cases that reveal something larger about place and power. The category can overlap with politics, biography, sports, and history, which makes framing important. A submission should be clear about what access you have, whose story is being told, and how the book handles harm without turning it into spectacle.
