New adult remains one of publishing's most debated categories, sitting somewhere between young adult and adult fiction with protagonists typically aged 18-25 navigating first independence, relationships, and career decisions. Some agents still ask for new adult, while others treat similar projects as upmarket commercial fiction, crossover YA, romance, or BookTok-adjacent contemporary fiction depending on content and tone. The category often overlaps with college-set stories, workplace romances, quarter-life crisis narratives, and women's fiction, which makes agent selection unusually important. 132+ US agents on this page have signals that could matter for new adult or closely related work, but the label itself will not carry the submission. Before submitting, research recent deals and client announcements to see how each agent positions books with young adult crossover potential, emerging adult themes, or romance-forward adult shelving.

Micah Brocker is interested in fostering authors' and screenwriters' careers from the start. In film, she is interested in YA contemporary stories dealing with messy relationships and issues that help young adults put words to their experiences, and YA science fiction and urban fantasy that provide escape while connecting to everyday growing-up troubles. In adult fiction, she likes women's fiction and upmarket fiction about burdensome secrets, messy relationships, and characters with a deep desire to change their lives or the world, especially with psychological, science-fiction, or romantic twists. Her official linked QueryManager form says that when it is accepting, it is limited to romance.
