Travel writing is a small part of trade publishing, but a stubborn one that keeps producing crossover hits when the writer treats place as a way into something larger. The American adventure-memoir lineage from Cheryl Strayed's Wild through to contemporary climate-and-pilgrimage projects, and the British literary-travel tradition from Bruce Chatwin onward, both feed into the current market. Some agents focus on memoir-adjacent travel, others on cultural commentary, historical-travel projects, or the slow rise of climate, conservation, and indigenous-knowledge writing that overlaps with nature writing. 20+ agents on this page show travel signals or closely adjacent narrative non-fiction interests. Whether the project leans toward memoir, journalism, cultural criticism, or pilgrimage matters for agent fit before submitting, because agents in travel often specialise sharply within these approaches.

Nonfiction should include a brief introduction, full outline, and first ten pages of the manuscript in the body of the email.
