Peter Buckman co-founded The Ampersand Agency in 2003 after careers as a Penguin editorial board member, a commissioning editor at New American Library in New York, and a prolific writer of books, films, plays, and TV and radio scripts. His first signing was Vikas Swarup, whose debut became the film Slumdog Millionaire; current clients include crime writers Quentin Bates and Helen Black, historical novelists J D Davies and Cora Harrison, thriller writers Beverley Jones and Rachel Lynch, and non-fiction writers Sean O'Driscoll and Alex Rogers. He also manages the literary estates of Georgette Heyer, H. R. F. Keating, Angela Thirkell, and Winifred Foley.
