Peter Buckman co-founded The Ampersand Agency in 2003 after careers as a Penguin editorial board member, a commissioning editor at New American Library in New York, and a prolific writer of books, films, plays, and TV and radio scripts. His first signing was Vikas Swarup, whose debut became the film Slumdog Millionaire, current clients include crime writers Quentin Bates and Helen Black, historical novelists J D Davies and Cora Harrison, thriller writers Beverley Jones and Rachel Lynch, and non-fiction writers Sean O'Driscoll and Alex Rogers. He also manages the literary estates of Georgette Heyer, H. R. F. Keating, Angela Thirkell, and Winifred Foley.
