How to submit
Email submissions to submissions@jennybrownassociates.com for adult work (or directly to jenny@jennybrownassociates.com or lisa@jennybrownassociates.com), or to childrens@jennybrownassociates.com for children's submissions. Write a covering letter in the body of the email. Fiction: attach first three chapters (around 50 pages) and a synopsis in a single document. Non-fiction: attach a proposal and a couple of sample chapters. Picture books: send three complete stories. Illustrators: send samples and a link to your website. Attach text as .doc, .docx, or .pdf; illustrations as .jpeg, .gif, or .pdf. Number your pages.
Response time
Acknowledges receipt of all submissions, only follows up if interested. No response within one month means the project is not the right fit.

What we found

Jenny Brown founded the agency in 2002 and was previously Head of Literature at the Scottish Arts Council, founder Director of the Edinburgh International Book Festival, and presenter of book programmes for Scottish Television. She was awarded an OBE in 2024 and made an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 2021. The agency runs the Debut Writers Over 50 Award, open to debut novelists aged over 50, with the 2024 winner being Juliet Thomas for her crime novel 31 Milton Road. Lisa Highton does not represent sci-fi, fantasy, horror, or true crime.
